1940: Went to Enfield, then to library and finally to see Lilian with Barbara in evening.
------
1941: Received the news that we're to migrate to the hall on Monday, so spent the time clearing up. Set off to hike in evening but didn't so gassed and mucked about.
------
1942: I do hope B does not think I don't want her. I feel rather mean about not seeing her much, but she should realise that there are other people in this world. Visited her before supper and H [Hilda] came and sang afterwards.
------
1943: Turned very warm, so dripped down to Baths and wasn't very energetic all day. Visited Coralie McManners who seems to want me - has got room partly fitted up. Went to school early and cooked supper for H. We firewatched. Alert at 2, so we dashed out in our tin helmets and then there was a thunderstorm! So made tea and retired as soon as poss.
------
1944: Can think of nothing of note which happened today. Orchestra as usual - it has grown.

1940: Gorgeous day. Holiday. Cut out frock in morning and then played tennis with Barbara. Telegram from family to go to Notts so rushed around Enfield in afternoon and then dressmaked rest of day. H [Hilda] came round for a bit.
------
1941: Lovely morning. Cycled round Hackpen and picked flowers. Gathered moss in afternoon and did nothing much in evening.
------
1942: Visited office and Miss Jeans in lunch hour. Dined with B [Beryl] in evening and went to Youth Club, which didn't go very successfully. Fount went up 5 miles in my estimation rather t'other day, by a talk she gave her 'young' teachers on sex teaching for the girls!
------
1943: Boiling day, felt miserable and unable to make up mind re room. Cycled round and round and smoked in rec - then went to see Coralie. She agreed to my price, was very glad I was going and is doing all she can, so I'm off to do for myself in a fortnight's time - ! Shall I starve or grow fat?
------
1944: Cook thought I'd shipped out on her and gone swimming, but I was only taking choir! They sang well today, and we had another practice in afternoon - I seemed to do nothing but sing! Felt peeved at dinner-time as H is going to spring clean on Sun so won't come out. Wish I didn't show it. She came round with Chris after tea to get some milk.
