1940: Cleaned bike in morning. Shopped in Enfield in afternoon.
------
1941: So few turned up at school that we had to cancel attendance and keep the kids there. Not so many snowballs this time! First Aid still pretty futile.
------
1942: School proceeded fairly uneventfully. Letter from Barbara not saying much about herself except that she was fed up. Haven't felt lonely without her yet. Giggle night at Prowse-house, few there but very enjoyable.
------
1943: Got up at 8:15, got brekker, and were saved fag of walking to school. Took netball practice after school and spent evening at home. Cold got worse again.
------
1944: Hectic day. Dashed to get rations then made a cake and shortbread. Got ready for club and called for H. Siren went in middle, but we went on till 9, then dashed to school to firewatch. Another very heavy alert at 5am with masses of gunfire.

1940: Mary Wilson came to tea in afternoon, quite fun to see her after all this time. She hasn't altered much, and we were a bit stumped for conversation sometimes. She's rather a sweet kid.
------
1941: Few more kids arrived but we did very little work and were too lazy to go to badminton in the evening. Sewed instead.
------
1942: Still cold. Kids have been silly and naughty today and so I let fly a bit. Never mind - it's Friday, thank goodness. Went round to Prowses and had a bath, after teasing from Perp, who wanted to know where Uncle was! Phoned Mrs. Page.
------
1943: Got up for dinner, and walked - very slowly! - to top of road and back in afternoon. Landlady rushed me five bob for these two days - gosh - may I not money make like it. H came round in morning, brought me some mince pies.
------
1944: Breakered in bed. Cooked dinner by 12:30, and as it was a joint, had to carve for the first time! Went to Adelphi to hear L.P.O. [London Philharmonic Orchestra] and the Khachaturian fiddle concerto. Enjoyed it. Walked round City after. Records in evening.
