1940: Lucy came to tea with me and we went to Enfield to nee 'Ninochta'. T'was the first time I'd seen Greta Garbo and I was very favourably impressed. Fount gave us half-an-hour's play because of yesterday's naval victory - what'll happen if we suffer a defeat?
------
1941: Warmer. Got up eventually. H and I walked to Enfield to see last night's bomb damage and back thro' park. Met Lilian and male. Wish I didn't feel awkward with her. Took dogs - or they took us! - for walk after. Played darts after lunch and then went to Victoria together. Home 7.
------
1942:Rained in morning. Had photograph taken! 'Spec it's awful. Weather gorgeous later and Beryl and I cycled to Steyning and then to West Grinstead and found a bank full of violets. Enjoyed ride very much, but oh my bottom! Had supper with her in her room.
------
1943: Hilda and I went to Albert Hall to hear JSB's St Matthew Passion in full by Bach Choir etc. We enjoyed it tremendously, a lovely performance. Margaret in choir, spoke to her at lunch interval, and we ate sandwiches in park, and had tea with her after. Pilk there - had few words, nice seeing her again. Bussed back via N. Cir. Road [North Circular Road]. Popped into Cock! A gorgeous weekend.
------
1944: Nothing happened. Down town I believe with Pa. To B's to machine in evening. No rows so far, only just the everlasting differing of opinion and the eternal wanting to do so.

1940: Walked to school all day! Spent the entire afternoon testing gasmasks whilst the kids did needlework. Went to tea with H. Played and she sang, and after supper I was initiated into Monopoly - a topping game. I did enjoy the evening.
------
1941: Better weather here in Worthing! Went down town in morning and met Dridge, Greta and various others. Ambled in car in afternoon to see town's defenses - they mean work. Beryl and Ron came round in evening to chat - he's very nice.
------
1942: Packed in morning and went up to town in afternoon. Train went all wrong and arrived at Lewes first! Mrs. Finn has made my room very nice - better than Countisbury. The text has been removed! Visited Hilda and Barbara.
------
1943: Just Monday. Last G.T.C. [Girls Training Corp]. I've quite enjoyed doing it.
------
1944: Played tennis with Dora plus a couple of unknown lads to make 4. She came back to tea. Didn't know what to talk about.
