1940: Ghastly day - snowed again! I actually stayed in all the evening and mended and wrote letters. ------
1941: Lovely day and quite warm, which made me desire sleep, but invigorated my chilblains! Went to Prowses to do First Aid, but listened to gram and wireless and gassed instead! They are nice. ------
1942: Played organ for a change. Did odd jobs while expecting Mrs. Page and only saw her and Vernon for a few minutes whilst we were squeaking. Perp has to reduce staff so has asked Edm. to recall both of us! The pet. ------
1943: Pa and I went to view damage - Grove Road is badly wrecked. Returned to town with Freda Head. Weekend without a row - just avoided one yesterday morning. Firewatched. Ate kippers for supper, then H and I explored Open Air School in moonlight. I taught her the Palais Slide [dance] in the infant playground. ------
1944: H and I walked to food office in dinner hr. Orchestra alone in evening. Nasty raid at 11pm. Coralie came to my room, so I wasn't scared.

1940: Can't think why Fount is always so sweet to me - I hope it holds. Went round to Goble's again in evening and still lost at darts. Played Bismarck afterwards which was great fun. Ron nearly went mad! ------
1941: Gorgeous day! We took Mrs. Prowse and Mary for a walk in morning round Blackaller [Lane] and found daffodils. They took us for a picnic in afternoon to Hembury Fort. Gurt fun! Oh boy, tea in the open and leapfrog. ------
1942: Rained chiefly, so didn't cycle over to Wellington. Felt a bit queer later, but we went for a walk to Gypsy Cross and then spent the evening with the Howards. ------
1943: Can't understand this weather, it's too lovely to last. Lilian is queer these days, but asked me last week to share a flat wit her after war - I just couldn't, I want to live with Hilda so much, I must really talk to her soon, if I can get her to be serious about it, but she's so hard to pin down. ------
1944: Lovely warm sunny day. Played hockey with the kids.
