1940: Didn't go out but spent day with Thorpes playing pf [pianoforte] while they sang, etc. ------
1941: Still wet, damp and miserable out. Began first aid lectures in evening and they're going to be chronic. Doctor Griffin just sits on the table and reads from the book. A lot of use that is. ------ 1942:
Had blazing row with Syke after school, she called us two mere evacuees and we replied hotly. B [Beryl] in floods and very worked up. S realised her mistake about our billet though wouldn't admit blame. She has returned out billet paper to Lowry. Went down to Mrs. Reynolds for eve. ------ 1943:
Fount still affable, can't understand it! Went to tea with Hilda - she, Renee, Claudia and I went to Intimate to see 'Outward Bound', a very striking play I'd seen in my youth and always wished to see again. It certainly makes one sit up and think. ------ 1944:
Cook commented on my star-spangled frock this afternoon - she thought it was charming. Went home for weekend and found Ma up and somewhat better this time thank goodness. Went to O.G. [Old Girls] reunion for a bit, didn't know many. Mac there.

1940: Fountain back, therefore muddle and dither. Table tennis all afternoon. Went to First Aid lecture with B and L at Enfield - think it will be worthwhile. ------
1941: Now we have to test gas masks again. Do we never get any work done in this school? Washed hair in evening. ------
1942: B very unwell, started for school but wept again over Mrs. P all morning and she's been advised to go home, or else she'll have a nervous breakdown. Gosh how awful I feel and how I hate this place. Folk dancing at school in evening with Mrs. Grant. Great fun. ------
1943: Sunny day. Went to tea with H [Hilda] once again to machine my slacks, but Claudia did them by hand for me. Mrs. G out, but met her on way home. H had to go to class, she didn't seem too gay today. I played darts and arranged H's birthday present with Renee. ------
1944: Down town in morning alone and with Pa in afternoon. Knat in evening.
